Abstract
Bakterija S. aureus pronađena je kod pacijenata oboljelih od upalnih stanja kože poput psorijaze, akni, kroničnih rana, impetigo, atopijskog dermatitisa i rozacee. U kozmetičke svrhe koriste se retinoidi koji mogu pozitivno djelovati na kožu smanjujući rizik od infekcije bakterijom S. aureus. Retinoidi pokazuju sinergističko djelovanje s drugim sredstvima, poput koloidnog srebra, zbog čega su dostupni i kombinirani pripravci u s pojačanim antimikrobnim djelovanjem retinoida. Ovim završnim radom istraživalo se izravno antimikrobno djelovanje lokalnih retinoida na zlatni stafilokok Staphylococcus aureus. Mikrodilucijskim testom je utvrđeno antimikrobno djelovanje lokalnih retinoida protiv soja S. aureus, dok disk difuzijskim testom nisu utvrđene antibakterijske aktivnosti. Ovim završnim radom predstavljena su i istraživanja o indirektnim i sinergijskim učincima retinoida na S. aureus, ograničenja njihove uporabe te preporuke za daljnja istraživanja.
Abstract (english)
The bacterium S. aureus has been found in patients suffering from inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne, chronic wounds, impetigo, atopic dermatitis and rosacea. Retinoids, used for cosmetic purposes, can positively influence the skin by lowering the risk of S. aureus infection. Retinoids exhibit a synergistic effect with other agents, such as colloidal silver, which is why combined preparations with enhanced antimicrobial activity of retinoids are available for cosmetic use. This final work investigated the direct antimicrobial effect of topical retinoids on Staphylococcus aureus. The antimicrobial activity of topical retinoids against the S. aureus strain was determined by the microdilution test, while the antibacterial activity was not determined by the disc diffusion test. This thesis also presents research on the indirect and synergistic effects of retinoids on S. aureus, the limitations of their use, and recommendations for further research.
