Abstract
Epigenetika je grana genetike koja se bavi posttranslacijskim promjenama DNA kao što su metilacija DNA ili različite modifikacije histona. Ove modifikacije utječu na ekspresiju gena bez da mijenjaju DNA sekvencu. Na epigenetičke modifikacije utječu naše životne navike, a ključna je prehrana. Pojedine aktivne tvari u našoj svakodnevnoj prehrani imaju značajan utjecaj na epigenetičke promjene pa su znanstvenici zaključili kako bismo unošenjem određene hrane mogli prevenirati ili liječiti neke bolesti kao što su tumori, bolesti metabolizma ili pak neurodegenerativne bolesti. U ovom će radu biti opisano na koji način prehrana modificira naš epigenom te kako njena konzumacija može utjecati na prevenciju i razvoj različitih bolesti.
Abstract (english)
Epigenetics is a branch of genetics that deals with post-translational changes in DNA, such as DNA methylation or other histone modifications. These modifications affect gene expression without changing the DNA sequence. Our lifestyle habits influence epigenetic modifications, and nutrition is the key. Certain active substances in our daily diet significantly impact epigenetic changes, so scientists concluded that by consuming certain foods, we could prevent or treat some diseases, such as tumours, metabolic diseases or neurodegenerative diseases. This paper will describe how nutrition modifies our epigenome and can impact the prevention and healing of different diseases.
