Abstract
Holandska bolest brijesta je bolest venuća te predstavlja veliku opasnost za populacije brijestova diljem svijeta. Dosad su zabilježene dvije pandemije koje su ostavile velike posljedice. Trokut bolesti čine fitopatogene gljive Ophiostoma ulmi (uzročnik prve pandemije) i O. novo-ulmi (uzročnik druge pandemije), vektori potkornjaci i domaćin brijest. Čimbenici povezani s klimatskim promjenama kao što su visoke temperature u ljetnim mjesecima i smanjenje vlažnosti mogli bi utjecati na vrstu O. novo-ulmi i učestalost razvoja bolesti. Smatra se kako je optimalna temperatura rasta vrste O. novo-ulmi pri 20 do 22 °C, no ovo istraživanje pokazalo je kako uzgoj na 26 °C nije negativno utjecao na brzinu rasta testiranih izolata O. novo-ulmi s područja Bjelovara. Iako nisu utvrđene značajne promjene u temperaturnom maksimumu ove vrste te je rast na 33 °C bio inhibiran, dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na dobru sposobnost prilagodbe brzine rasta promjenama temperature u rasponu od 20 do 26 °C. Promjena temperaturnog optimuma i sposobnost prilagodbe brzine rasta mogla bi značajno doprinositi prilagodbi na klimatske promjene.
Abstract (english)
Dutch elm disease is a wilt disease that represents a major threat to elm populations worldwide. Two pandemics have been recorded with severe consequences. The disease triangle consists of the phytopathogenic fungi Ophiostoma ulmi (causal agent of the first pandemic) and O. novo-ulmi (causal agent of the second pandemic), the vectors bark beetles and the host elm. Environmental factors associated with climate change could affect O. novo-ulmi and the incidence of the disease. The optimal growth temperature for O. novo-ulmi is considered to be 20 – 22 °C, but this research showed that cultivation at 26 °C did not negatively affect the growth rate of the tested O. novo-ulmi isolates from the Bjelovar area. Although no significant changes in the temperature maximum of this species were found and growth inhibition was observed at 33 °C, the results obtained indicate a good ability to adapt its growth rate to temperature changes in the range of 20 - 26 °C. Changing the temperature optimum and the ability to adjust the growth rate could contribute significantly to adaptation to climate change.
