Abstract
Mikroplastika je jedan od većih zagaĎivača vodenih ekosustava, s izrazito nepovoljnim utjecajem na vodene organizme, posebice filtratore kao što su školjkaši. Jedinke školjkaša bile su izložene osmosatnim ciklusima hranjenja mikroplastikom kako bi se utvrdilo koliko čestica mikroplastike se zadržava unutar organizma. Nakon ciklusa hranjenja, školjkaši su bili izloženi 24-satnim ciklusima pročišćavanja radi utvrĎivanja količine mikroplastike koja se izbaci iz organizma. U svim školjkašima pronaĎene su čestice mikroplastike, čak i nakon dužeg perioda pročišćavanja. Čestice mikroplastike su izolirane i prebrojane. Broj zadržanih i izbačenih čestica mikroplastike opadao je sa svakim novim ciklusom pročišćavanja. Slatkovodni školjkaši roda Unio kao filtratorni organizmi pokazuju potencijal za monitoring prisutnosti čestica mikroplastike u slatkovodnim ekosustavima.
Abstract (english)
Microplastics are one of the major pollutants of aquatic ecosystems, with an extremely undesirable impact on aquatic organisms, especially filter feeders such as bivalves. The bivalves were exposed to eight-hour feeding cycles with microplastics in order to determine how many microplastic particles are retained inside the organism. After the feeding cycle, the bivalves were exposed to 24-hour purification cycles in order to determine the amount of microplastic particles released from the organism. Microplastic particles (MPs) were found in all bivalves, even after prolonged purification. MPs were isolated and counted. The number of retained and released MPs decreased with each new purification cycle. As filter feeding organisms freshwater bivalves of the Unio genus show potential for monitoring the microplastics presence in freshwater ecosystems.
