Abstract
Mravi su zadružni kukci velike biomase i raznolikosti. Milijunima godina su evoluirali i prilagođavali se raznim staništima i uvjetima života. Značajan broj vrsta prilagodio se suživotu s drugim organizmima, što im je omogućilo osvajanje novih područja i povećanje mogućnosti za preživljavanjem. Simbioze s biljkama im donose dom i hranu, a zauzvrat im pružaju zaštitu od herbivora i parazitskih biljaka. Simbioze s kukcima im daju hranu, a njima pružaju zaštitu od predatora. Gljive im osim hrane, pružaju i zaštitu mravinjaka, a mravi njima osiguravaju prostor za život i nutrijente. Bakterije mravima omogućavaju bolji prinos gljiva, a oni njima daju nutrijente i prostor za razvoj.
Abstract (english)
Ants are social insects which are highly abundant and diverse. For millions of years they have evolved and adapted to different habitats and conditions. A significant number of ant species have adapted to living with different organisms, which has granted them conquest of new areas and increase in chance of survival. Symbioses with plants brought them shelter and food, and in turn ants provide them with protection from herbivores and parasitic plants. Symbioses with insects granted them food and ants protect them from predators. In addition to food, mushrooms also provide protection for anthills, and ants provide them with space for life and nutrients. Bacteria allow ants to get better mushroom yields, in return they give them nutrients and space to grow.
