Abstract
Zbog sve veće potrebe za povećanjem poljoprivredne proizvodnje te zbog uočenog štetnog djelovanja sintetičkih pesticida na tlo, ljude i neciljne organizme prisutna je intenzivna potraga za ekološki prihvatljivijim, ali podjednako učinkovitim pesticidima. Biljna eterična ulja i njihove glavne komponente imaju značajno antibakterijsko, antiviralno i insekticidno djelovanje te služe kao obrambeni mehanizam biljaka u uvjetima biotičkog i abiotičkog stresa. Eterična ulja majčine dušice (Thymus vulgaris L) pokazuju učinkovito insekticidno djelovanje pri čemu se komponente timol i karvakrol ističu svojim utjecajem na središnji živčani sustav kukaca, posebno na GABA, kolinergički i oktopaminergički sustav. Unatoč velikom insekticidnom potencijalu sekundarnih metabolita u sastavu eteričnog ulja majčine dušice mehanizmi djelovanja na kukce i međudjelovanja pojedenih komponenti ulja još nisu u potpunosti razjašnjeni. Zamjena štetnih kemijskih pesticida ekološki prihvatljivijim botaničkim pesticidima pridonijela bi očuvanju kvalitete tla, mikroorganizama, biljaka i životinja te na posljetku zdravlja ljudske populacije.
Abstract (english)
Due to the growing need to increase agricultural production and the perceived harmful effects of synthetic pesticides on soil, humans and non-target organisms, there is an intense search for more environmentally friendly but equally effective pesticides. Herbal essential oils and their main components possess significant antibacterial, antiviral and insecticidal activity and serve as a defence mechanism of plants under the conditions of biotic and abiotic stress. Thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) essential oils show effective insecticidal activity, whereby the components of thymol and carvacrol stand out with their influence on the central nervous system of insects, particularly GABA, cholinergic and octopaminergic system. Despite the strong insecticidal activity shown, mechanisms of action in insects and interactions of individual components of the oil have not yet been fully clarified. The use of botanical pesticides would contribute to the preservation of soil quality, microorganisms, plants and animals and ultimately the health of the human population.
