Abstract
Bioluminescencija predstavlja produkciju i emitaciju svjetlosti od strane živog organizma, kao rezultat kemijske reakcije tijekom koje se kemijska energija pretvara u svjetlosnu. Životinje koje posjeduju ovu sposobnost nazvane su svjetlećim ili luminescentnim životinjama te pripadaju različitim životinjskim skupinama. U njih ubrajamo: praživotinje, spužve, žarnjake, rebraše, vrpčare, mekušce, kolutićavce, rakove, stonoge, kukce, bodljikaše, žiroglavce, plaštenjake i ribe. Ova sposobnost ima vrlo zanimljivu evoluciju unutar različitih skupina organizama te već dugi niz godina pomaže životinjskim organizmima u raznim aspektima njihova života kao što su zaštita od neprijatelja, privlačenje suprotnog spola i drugo, te je odigrala i bitnu ulogu u mnogim znanstvenim istraživanjima.
Abstract (english)
Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism as a result of a chemical reaction during which the chemical energy turns into light. Animals possessing this ability are called luminous or luminescent animals and belong to different animal groups such as: protozoans, sponges, cnidaria, ctenophora, nemertea, mollusca, annelida, crustacea, myriapoda, insects, echinodermata, enteropneusta, tunicata and fish. This ability has a very interesting evolution within different groups of organisms and for many years, it has been helping animal organisms in various aspects of their life such as protection from the enemy, the attraction of the opposite sex and others, and has also played an important role in numerous scientific researches.
