Abstract
Bioluminiscencija je široko rasprostranjena pojava koja prvenstveno dominira morskim ekološkim sustavom. Ovu pojavu karakterizira produkcija i emisija svjetlosti iz živućeg organizma kao rezultat specifičnog biokemijskog mehanizma koji uključuje kaskadu kemijskih reakcija, specifičnu za pojedinu vrstu organizma. Krajnji rezultat je produkcija svjetlosti vidljive golim okom. Velik dio bioluminiscencije u moru nastaje zbog emisije svjetlosti fitoplanktonskih dinoflagelata. Topliji dijelovi mora i izolirani zaljevi omogućuju intenzivni rast ovih organizama, a njihova visoka koncentracija te uzburkana morska površina rezultiraju pojavom tzv. plave svjetlosti.
Abstract (english)
Bioluminescence is widely distributed phenomenon that primarily dominates over marine ecosystem. This phenomenon is characterized by light production and emission that occurs inside the living organism resulting from a specific biochemical mechanism involving a cascade of chemical reactions, often specific for that organism. Furthermost result is production of visible light. Much of the bioluminescence of the sea is due to light emission of dinoflagellates. Warmer parts of the sea and isolated bays allow intense growth of these organisms so their higher concentration along disturbed sea surface result in appearance of blue light.
