Abstract
Sindrom policističnih jajnika (PCOS, engl. polycystic ovary sindrome) najčešći je poremećaj endokrinog sustava kod žena reproduktivne dobi. Karakteriziraju ga kombinacije reproduktivnih disfunkcija i metaboličkih abnormalnosti. Zbog svoje heterogenosti teško ga je dijagnosticirati pa postoji par dijagnostičkih kriterija. Najpoznatiji simptomi su hiperandrogenizam odnosno povišena razina muških spolnih hormona androgena te anovulacija odnosno nedostatak ovulacije ili neredoviti menstrualni ciklusi. Način života uvelike utječe na manifestaciju PCOS-a pa se simptomi mogu smanjiti zdravim načinom života. Puno različitih tretmana koji omogućuju jednostavan oporavak je dostupno za liječenje PCOS-a kod svih životnih skupina. Zbog metaboličkih abnormalnosti zastupljenost dugoročnih posljedica npr. kardiovaskularnih bolesti, veća je kod žena oboljelih od sindroma policističnih jajnika u odnosu na opću populaciju
Abstract (english)
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common disorder of the endocrine system in women of reproductive age. It is characterized by a combination of reproductive dysfunctions and metabolic abnormalities. Due to its heterogeneity, it is difficult to diagnose, so there are a couple of diagnostic criteria. The most well-known symptoms are hyperandrogenism, i.e. elevated levels of the male sex hormone androgens, and anovulation, i.e. lack of ovulation or an irregular menstrual cycle. Lifestyle greatly affects the manifestation of PCOS so symptoms can be reduced by living a healthy lifestyle. A lot of different treatments are available to treat PCOS in all life groups that allow for easy recovery. Due to metabolic abnormalities, the prevalence of long-term consequences, such as cardiovascular diseases, is higher in women with polycystic ovary syndrome than in the general population
