Abstract
Za selen se smatra da je jedan od najkontroverznijih elemenata koji je u organizmima prisutan u tragovima. S jedne strane, prilično je toksičan i veliki broj istraživanja ukazuje na zagađenje okoliša zbog prisutnosti visokih koncentracija spomenutog elementa. S druge strane, selen iako je nužan za sve žive organizme, ipak njegov nedostatan ili prekomjeran unos ima određene štetne posljedice na organizme. Tako na primjer, nedostatan ili prekomjeran unos selena može štetno utjecati na produktivne i reproduktivne sposobnosti životinja koje se uzgajaju za ljudsku prehranu. U ovom radu detaljno je opisana uloga selena, te njegov kružni ciklus u prirodi, tj. put kako zapravo selen putem hranidbenog lanca dođe u animalnu ishranu. Vezano uz sam hrandibeni lanac opisane su metode suplementacije selenom koje omogućuju potrebnu količinu selena u animalnoj ishrani. Također, opisana fiziološka važnost selena kao i posljedice koje se javljaju zbog nedovoljne ili prevelike konzumacije selena u animalnoj ishrani.
Abstract (english)
Selenium is considered one of the most constroversial trace element. On the one hand, selenium is highly toxic and a lot of studies indicate that in high concentrations this element can cause contamination of environment. On the other hand, selenium is necessary element in animal nutrition so his insufficient or excessive intake leads to certain negative effects in organism. For example, insufficient or excessive intake can cause productive or reproductive problems in animals that are used in food industry. In the present thesis, role of selenium is described in detail so as his cycle in nature. More specifficaly, his role in animal nutrition is discussed. Moreover, methods of suplementation with selenium in animal nutrition which provide sufficient amount of selenium are also described. In adittion, the present thesis involves physiological importance of selenium in humans and animals so as consequences that appear as a result of insufficient or excessive doses of selenium in animal nutrition.
